Highlights:
U.S. Flue-Cured Auction Update: Through 22 sale days of the 1998 U.S. flue-cured auction season, total flue-cured gross sales reached 123,335 metric tons at an average price of $3.56 per kilogram. This represents an increase in sales of over 6 percent and a decrease in the average price of 1 percent when compared to the same 22-day period of the 1997 U.S. flue-cured auction season. Over 15 percent of sales have gone under loan so far this year compared to less than 12 percent during the same period last year. Auction activities were passed on August 26 for belt 13 due to hurricane Bonnie.
