Zimbabwes Tobacco Marketing board reported 184,877 metric tons of flue-cured tobacco were sold during the 22 week 1997 season. The final average price for the season was U.S.$2.35 per kilogram. Sales during the final week totaled 6,826 and averaging $1.34 per kilogram, well below the season average because of the end of season increase in scrap and declared defective tobacco. The price trends during the last week of sales saw mature smoking styles of leaf increased 16 cents and ripe styles of leaf remained steady.
