Crop Production in the Former Soviet Union

There are three main agricultural zones in the former Soviet Union. The winter grain region lies west of the Ural mountains and includes European Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Estonia, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. The spring wheat region, or New Lands, includes the Urals region, Asian Russia (Siberia and the Far East region) and Kazakstan. The main cotton region is situated in Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan), but cotton is produced also in Azerbaijan and southern Kazakstan.
