Climatic features: Subtropical, humid, monsoonal climate; long, hot summers; warm, short winters, conspicuous dry and reainy seasons; one of China's most rainy areas.

Average temperature: 6 - 16 C. in January, 25 - 29 C. in July.

Annual Average Rainfall: 1,200 - 1,800 mm in most areas, with higher precipitation on the seaward side of mountains; 80 percent of the rain falls from April to September.

Physical features: High in the northwest and low in the southeast; mountains on three sides; hills and plains in the middle and south; karst covers more than half of the region; drained by western branches of the Pearl River; faces the Beibu Bay.

Products: Rice, wheat, corn, potatoes, millet, sorghum, rapeseed, cassava, peanuts, sugar cane, tea, soybeans, ambary hemp, silk cocoons; tobacco; oranges, lychees, longans, bananas, pineapples; subtropical and tropical cash crops including rubber, coffee, pepper, sisal hemp, tea oil, and lemongrass; timber; aniseed, fennel oil, cassia bark; sea products; manganese, bauxite, salt, coal, plaster stone, sulphur, tin, phosphorus, antimony, walfrom, iron, gold.
