Canada: Corn Facts

  • Corn is grown primarily in the eastern provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
  • In recent years, corn has been increasingly grown near the U.S. border, in the western province of Manitoba.
  • Corn is planted in spring, from May to June, and harvested from October to November.
  • Most corn is harvested for grain, although some corn is chopped and fed to livestock as silage.
  • On a global scale, Canada is not a major corn producer.  Canada is a net corn importer, all of which comes from the United States.
  • Average annual production of corn in Canada from 1998-2002 was  8.5 million tons.  For the most current corn statistics for Canada, please see PS&D Online.
