On a per-capita basis, Taiwan is one of the world’s leading purchasers of U.S. food and agricultural products. It ranks overall as the United States’ eighth-largest agricultural export market.

U.S. agricultural exports to Taiwan were valued at $3.2 billion in fiscal year 2013, down 14 percent from 2011. While Taiwan's market is generally open to U.S. agricultural products, there are several difficult and protracted market access issues, including beef and pork, which have made bilateral engagement politically difficult.
