Remnants of tropical storm Grace produced copious rainfall from Oklahoma to Ohio. Indianapolis received a record 7.2 inches of rainfall on September 1, 2003 |
Current soil moisture (percent) for the eastern United States shows
saturated soils due to the recent rains.
Dryness continues in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Iowa.
In Missouri, heavy rains replenished soil moisture reserves in
all but the hard-hit Northwestern and Northern regions

Sustained rainfall in key wheat areas is improving overall crop
prospects.

The weather this summer has been
unfavorably wet, cool and cloudy for the 2003/04 rice crop in South
Korea and southern North Korea.
Warmer and drier weather is needed in September for rice maturing and
harvest. Similar conditions in
1998 led to below-normal yields in South Korea.
