Canada:  Prairie Drought Slashes Production

False-color Landsat7 Satellite Image - Galahad, Alberta

There is a dramatic difference in the presence of vegetation between 1999, a normal year, and 2002.  Red indicates the presence of vegetation, and light blue shows bare fields.  Fields that were sparse in mid-July, 2002, continued to deteriorate into late-August.  Also notice how ponds and rivers (shown in black) have dried up this year.

Fields have little vegetation, and ponds are dry.
