May 2001 U.S. Crop Conditions

Western United States

arrowDakotas are mostly moist and early summer crops are in excellent early spring/summer crop condition.  Recent weather favored planting and establishment. §

§arrowMontana and Pacific Northwest are too dry.

§§arrowSouthern Plains – the generally poor winter wheat crop is in the reproductive and filling stage.  Crop uneven in development, abandonment above normal. Current moisture points toward good summer crop conditions. §

§arrowFar West – good crop conditions in California, but the region could become too dry by mid-Summer.  Northern California too dry, as is the Pacific Northwest.   Timely rainfall is keeping crops and pastures in fair to good condition.  Fires  are already a problem.
