BACKGROUND: On June 2, 1998, a final rule was published in the Federal Register which established that brand participants could be reimbursed for international travel and per diem for representatives who exhibit their products at a foreign trade show. The Marketing Operations Staff (MOS) has been asked to clarify who qualifies as a Arepresentative@ under this rule
POLICY: The intent of the rule is that employees and board members of private companies and employees or members of cooperatives are considered representatives. Trade show travel by brokers, sales agents, importers, or employees of marketing or public relations agencies is not reimbursable under the MAP. This policy is consistent with the information provided during the MOS presentation at the USAEDC conference in November 1998.
