U.S. seafood exports to the EU (European Union)
continued their impressive growth in calendar
2006. The EU’s position as the top growth market
for U.S. seafood was solidified as exporters
registered sizeable sales gains in several
member states.
Riding the Waves of the Russian Fish Market--New
Russia’s fish and seafood imports in calendar
2006 reached $1.2 billion, an increase of almost
27 percent compared with 2005. This trend will
likely continue, supported by: limited domestic
supplies; urban consumers’ growing incomes and
changing preferences; higher prices for other
animal proteins and the recent avian influenza
scare; and greater product availability.
Russia’s imports of U.S. fish and seafood
continue to expand, reaching $43.1 million last
year.
