Russia’s fish and seafood imports in calendar 2006 reached $1.2 billion, an increase of almost 27 percent compared with 2005. This trend will likely continue, supported by: limited domestic supplies; urban consumers’ growing incomes and changing preferences; higher prices for other animal proteins and the recent avian influenza scare; and greater product availability. Russia’s imports of U.S. fish and seafood continue to expand, reaching $43.1 million last year.
