About 1 million people live in Pretoria, one of  South Africa's two capitals.   Pretoria serves as the administrative capital while Cape Town serves as the legislative capital.
     Founded in 1855, the city is named after Andries Pretorius, the victorious leader of the Boers in the war against the Zulus.
    It is also nicknamed "Jacaranda City" after the Jacaranda trees that bloom in the spring.  The 70,000 trees transform the city into a sea of purple blossoms.
     The teachers will have a day to tour the city and recuperate from the jet leg of the 30-hour flight from Washington .
