Arrive at Johannesburg
International Airport The teachers arrived in
Johannesburg International Airport, South Africa, today.
South Africa is at the southern tip of Africa. It is
slightly less than twice the size of Texas and well known for its gold and diamond mines.
It has a population of 43 million people and is bordered by
Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe.
Thabo Mbeki was elected the new president of the republic this
month. He replaced Nelson Mandela who led the country from apartheid to democracy.
It is winter in South Africa. During the their stay,
the teachers are to expect temperatures near 0 C at night and about 20 C in the daytime.
Think About It!
If it is noon in Washington, what time is it in London, Pretoria and Los
Angeles?
