Africa and Middle East Region

Africa

The Cochran Fellowship Program trained 114 Fellows from 22 countries in the Africa and the Middle East regions in 2009.  Africa is rich in agricultural resources, yet nearly 200 million of its people are undernourished due to inadequate food supplies. The Cochran Fellowship Program is working tirelessly to implement the power of science and technology in ways that boost agricultural productivity, profitability, sustainability, and marketability -- ultimately ensuring that all Africans have access to enough safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs.

Middle East

The Middle East generally has an arid and hot climate, with several major rivers providing for irrigation to support agriculture in limited areas.  In modern times the Middle East remains a strategically, economically, politically, culturally and religiously sensitive region.  The Cochran Fellowship Program has been and will continue to remain active in the Middle East.
