Borlaug Agricultural Policy Executive Leadership Program

The Borlaug Agricultural Policy Executive Leadership Program is a new component of the Borlaug Fellowship Program that was formally authorized in the Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008.  This activity is targeted towards senior agricultural policymakers from the independent states of the former Soviet Union and Sub-Saharan Africa with the purpose of enhancing their leadership skills and helping them to establish linkages with U.S. policymakers.

The two-week inaugural Agricultural Policy Executive Program was launched October 2010 and focused on International Trade and Food Security.  Two Kazakh and two Ukrainian Fellows participated in this course.  The first segment of the policy course consisted of leadership training at the University of Florida's Leadership Development Institute and International Agricultural Trade and Policy Center in Gainesville, Florida.  The second segment of the course took place in Washington, D.C. and consisted of interactive meetings with U.S. government and private sector leaders in international trade and food security.
