U.S. horticultural product exports in fiscal year (FY) 1999 were valued at $10.3 billion, practically unchanged from shipments in FY 1998. At the same time, U.S. sales of horticultural products to non-traditional markets continued to increase in FY 1999. Total horticultural exports in FY 1999 to countries in the Middle East, the Caribbean, Central America, and Africa were valued at $708 million, up 10 percent from FY 1998. Exports to these regions accounted for 7 percent of total U.S. horticultural shipments to all markets in FY 1999. U.S. horticultural product sales to the Middle East in FY 1999 totaled $250 million, up more than 10 percent from FY 1998. Exports to Central America, valued at $163 million, increased almost 30 percent. Exports to the Caribbean remained roughly unchanged, at $242 million.
