U.S. Exports of
Horticultural Products
Remain Slightly Behind
Last Years Exports
U.S. exports of horticultural products
during fiscal year (FY) October-July 1998/99 are valued
at $8.6 billion, down 1.5 percent from the same period a
year ago. Exports of fresh citrus account for most of the
decline, due to a freeze in California last December. The
value of fresh citrus to date in FY 1999 is $470 million,
down 24 percent from the previous year.
Exports to Mexico are valued at $533
million so far in FY 1999, up nearly 18 percent from the
same time period a year ago. U.S. exports in July to
Korea, Australia, and Singapore, remain strong, with
exports to these countries for the month up an average of
13 percent from a year ago.
