Export Summary

U.S. exports of horticultural products to all countries in January totaled $769 million, up 1 percent from the same month a year earlier. Eight out of 15 categories registered increases. Categories with the most significant increases in January were non-citrus fresh fruit (up $13.6 million or 26 percent); fruit and vegetable juices (up $10.2 million or 25 percent); dried fruit (up $7.7 million or 29 percent) and wine (up $7.2 million or 26 percent). The categories with the most significant decreases were fresh citrus (down $10.9 million or 17 percent) and canned vegetables (down $8.3 million or 15 percent). For FY 1999 to date (October-January), the total value of U.S. horticultural exports was $3.53 billion -- 1 percent below FY 1998 during the same time period.

All measures not otherwise noted are metric. One kilogram (kg.)=2.2046 pounds, 1 metric ton = 2,204.62 pounds, 1 liter = 0.2642 gallon, 1 hectoliter (hl.) = 26.42 gallons, and 1 hectare (ha.) = 2.471 acres.
