Export Summary

U.S. exports of horticultural products to all countries in December totaled $842 million, down less than 1 percent from the same month a year earlier. Eight out of 15 categories registered increases. Categories with the most significant increases in December were frozen vegetables (up $7.6 million or 22 percent) and hops and products (up $4.4 million or 56 percent). The categories with the most significant decreases were fresh non-citrus fruit (down $9.4 million or 10 percent); fresh citrus (down $7.6 million or 15 percent) and dehydrated vegetables (down $6.9 million or 27 percent). For FY 1999 to date (October-December), the total value of U.S. horticultural exports was $2.76 billion–2 percent below FY 1998. Horticultural exports for total fiscal year 1999 are forecast at $10.0 billion, 3 percent below the previous year.

All measures not otherwise noted are metric. One kilogram (kg.)=2.2046 pounds, 1 metric ton = 2,204.62 pounds, 1 liter = 0.2642 gallon, 1 hectoliter (hl.) = 26.42 gallons, and 1 hectare (ha.) = 2.471 acres.
