Tomato product shipments during the first 10 months of MY 1997/98 were valued at about $198 million. Tomato paste and sauce accounted for the bulk of U.S. tomato products exported thus far. Canada accounted for most of U.S. canned tomatoes, tomato paste, and tomato sauce exports, with Japan being the largest market for ketchup. Canada was the top sauce market, followed by Mexico, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom. Other growing markets for U.S. tomato sauce include Taiwan, Sweden, Korea, France, and Hong Kong. Strong international demand and excellent quality of U.S. product have bolstered U.S. shipments of tomato products in recent years.
