Table shoing how U.S. exports of tropical products continue to climb in fiscal year 2001--set new record

U.S. tropical product exports--essential oils, cocoa and cocoa products, coffee and coffee products, spices, tea (including herbal) and products, and ginseng--totaled $1.89 billion in fiscal year (FY) October-September 2001, an increase of 22 percent from FY 2000. All of the groups registered increases, some substantial. U.S. exports of cocoa and cocoa products reached a record $710.3 million in FY 2001, up 45 percent from last year. U.S. exports of tea (including herbal) reached a record, rising 44 percent to $98.7 million. U.S. exports of essential oils continued to climb, reaching a record $676.7 million, up 14 percent from last year. Although the export value of coffee and coffee products rose only 2.7 percent, to $257.6 million, it, too, is a new record.

U.S. exports of tropical and related products, plus sugar and related products, totaled a record $3.29 billion in FY 2001, up 14 percent from FY 2000. Sugar confectionery, as well as the groupings listed above, accounted for much of the gain. Note: Essential oils and ginseng export statistics are also included in the export value total for horticultural products in the "World Horticultural Trade and U.S. Export Opportunities" circular.
