Japanese Bakers "Knead" More Blueberries Using MAP funding, the North American Blueberry Council (NABC) continues to capitalize on the increased Japanese interest in blueberries, anticipating another record year of exports to Japan. MY 2000 exports are estimated at $11.3 million, up from 1999's record-breaker of $7.7 million. The NABC expanded Japanese baker awareness of U.S. highbush blueberries using application seminars by a professional baker from the U.S. combined with ads and brochures. The result was a wide variety of new product introductions as bakers learned that they could add value to baked goods by using blueberries.
