November 13, 2003 European Union - 2003 Wine Production lowest in 10 years

Wine: World Situation and Outlook Report - March 2003
Total U.S. wine exports have leveled off after the large increases seen during the 1990s. Bottled wine imports surpassed the $2 billion level as the wine trade gap widens. Bottled wine exports are only one-fifth of imports. Competition for global market share continues to be strong, with new world wine producers expanding wine production and aggressively marketing their products. The more traditional wine-producing countries of the European Union (EU) strive to cut production, improve quality, and struggle to maintain market share.
