Korea Expands Tariff-Rate Quotas for Potatoes and Products for 2004:  FAS Seoul reported (#KS4014) that Korea expanded the quota on potatoes and other products, effective March 29, 2004 through the end of the year.  Korea’s fresh potato quota (excluding seed) will grow from 18,810 metric tons to 26,110 tons and potato flakes from 10 tons to 60 tons.  This expansion will be important as the U.S. potato industry continues to expand in this market.  The volume of U.S. exports of fresh potatoes to Korea was up almost 3,000 percent in 2003 to 5,160 tons.  With the anticipated removal of the fungus V. tenerum from Korea's quarantine list, we expect continued strong growth in 2004.  The volume of U.S. potato flake exports to Korea reached 272 tons in 2003, up 60 percent from 2002.
