New Outbreak Of Potato Wart On Prince Edward Island

According to FAS/Canada, another outbreak of Potato Wart has been confirmed on Prince Edward Island (PEI).  The current Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)/APHIS work plan, which was established during the 2000 PEI potato wart outbreak, controls the movement of PEI potatoes by establishing various "zones" on the island.  The effects of the latest outbreak on the work plan are not yet fully understood.  So far, CFIA is hailing the discovery as proof that the work plan "works".  APHIS and CFIA are meeting today in Washington, D.C. to discuss this issue.
