Export Summary
January 2001

U.S. exports of horticultural products to all countries in January totaled $814 million, an increase of 6 percent from the same month a year earlier. Categories with the most significant increases in January were essential oils (up 41 percent to $52 million), fruit and vegetable juices (up 18 percent to $59 million), and miscellaneous horticultural products (up 16 percent to $155 million) . The only categories with decreases were fresh fruit (down 2 percent to $135 million) and wine and beer (down 18 percent to $45 million).

January exports to Canada, the largest market, were up 7 percent from January 2000, to $252 million. Exports to China were up 128 percent to $13 million, while exports to the Philippines rose 45 percent, to $8 million and exports to Mexico rose 21 percent to $81 million. Exports to the EU were up 8 percent to $154 million while exports to Japan rose 2 percent to $124 million.

Exports for the October-January 2000/01 period were up 9 percent from the same period in 1999/2000 to $3.83 billion. Tree nut exports are up 28 percent to $535 million for the October-January 2000/01 period, while fresh fruit exports are up 13 percent to $673 million, and fresh vegetable exports are up 13 percent to $430 million. The fastest growing markets for FY 2001 to date are: China, up 122 percent; Malaysia, up 48 percent; Taiwan, up 22 percent; Hong Kong, up 21 percent; Venezuela, up 17 percent; and the EU, up 14 percent.

Users can obtain value or volume data for selected harmonized codes or commodity groupings to track trends going back to 1989.
