RICE: WORLD MARKETS AND TRADE
PRICES:
International:
Thai quotes are up $25 from last month to a
record $499 FOB per ton based on tight supplies,
an appreciating Baht, and recent purchases from
the Philippines.
Domestic: U.S.
#2/4 long grain milled rice quotes are up $82
from last month to a record $621 FOB per ton.
The spread between comparable qualities of Thai
and U.S. rice is $122 per ton compared to $102
per ton this time last year. California medium
grain #1/4 prices remain at $625 FOB per ton
since January 2008.
TRADE CHANGES FOR
2008
- United States
imports are increased
26,000 tons to a record 725,000
due to continued strong purchases of
fragrant rice from Asia.
TRADE CHANGES FOR
2007
Selected Exporter
- India’s
shipments are boosted from
3.8 million tons to 5.0 million, the second
highest ever, on late-season shipments to
Bangladesh, which was exempt from the ban on
exports.
Selected Importer
- Bangladesh
has more than doubled
from 650,000 tons to 1.5 million, the
highest in 9 years, because of unexpectedly
strong late-season imports from India.
