RICE: WORLD MARKETS AND TRADE
PRICES:
International: Thai quotes
are largely steady, up $2 from last month to
$332 per ton, FOB. Nominal quotes out of Vietnam
are at $320 per ton, FOB.
Domestic: U.S. #2/4 long
grain milled rice quotes are up from last month
to $456 per ton, FOB. The spread between
comparable qualities of Thai and U.S. rice is
$124 per ton compared to $120 per ton this time
last year. California medium grain #1/4 prices
are up from last month at $560 per ton, FOB.
TRADE CHANGES FOR 2008
Selected Exporters
- United States is raised 200,000 to 3.3
million tons in anticipation of greater
demand from major trading partners.
Selected Importers
- Australia is raised 125,000 to a record
275,000 tons based on tight supplies and
expectations of an extremely small harvest.
TRADE CHANGES FOR 2007
Selected Exporters
- India is down 300,000 to 4.2 million
tons due to the announced export ban.
- Thailand is down 100,000 tons to 8.5
million tons due to logistical constraints
at major shipping points.
- Vietnam is down 100,000 tons to 4.6
million tons due to tight supplies and an
export ban.
Selected Importers
- China is down 100,000 to 600,000 tons as
result of a slow import pace.
- Cuba is down 100,000 tons to 600,000
tons based on pace to date.
- Iraq is down 100,000 to 800,000 tons
because of slow
buying in the first half
of the year.
