This summary is based on reports from exporters for the period January 22-28, 2010.
Wheat: Net sales of 418,200 metric tons for delivery in 2009/10 were down 37 percent from the previous week and 5 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases were reported for Mexico (196,100 MT), Japan (70,200 MT), Thailand (45,000 MT), Guatemala (29,500 MT, switched from unknown destinations), Costa Rica (20,500 MT), Ecuador (20,000 MT), and Algeria (20,000 MT). Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (56,500 MT). Net sales of 64,500 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were for Mexico (52,500 MT) and Nigeria (12,000 MT). Exports of 449,500 MT were up 6 percent from the previous week and 41 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Japan (91,600 MT), Mexico (64,800 MT), Nigeria (51,800 MT), Venezuela (48,300 MT), and the Philippines (42,100 MT).
Corn: Net sales of 923,200 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were up 2 percent from the previous week and 15 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases were reported for Mexico (376,800 MT), Japan (234,700 MT, including 109,500 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 42,300 MT), unknown destinations (89,700 MT), Taiwan (69,300 MT, including 25,400 MT switched from Japan and decreases of 2,000 MT), Peru (40,600 MT), Egypt (32,200 MT, including 28,900 MT switched from Taiwan), and Colombia (26,500 MT). Net sales of 3,000 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were for Guatemala. Exports of 1,123,000 MT were up noticeably from the previous week and 59 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Japan (415,800 MT), South Korea (230,200 MT), Mexico (181,500 MT), Egypt (114,900 MT), Colombia (30,500 MT), and Panama (27,600 MT).
Barley: Net sales of 100 MT were for Mexico. There were no exports reported during the week.
Sorghum: Net sales of 78,700 MT were for Mexico (60,500 MT) and Japan (26,300 MT, including 13,100 MT switched from unknown destinations). Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (8,100 MT). Exports of 89,300 MT were to Japan (45,600 MT) and Mexico (43,700 MT).
Rice: Net sales of 92,600 MT were down 9 percent from the previous week and 8 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases were reported for Venezuela (30,000 MT), Nigeria (24,000 MT), South Korea (15,000 MT), Mexico (5,900 MT), and Honduras (5,000 MT). Decreases were reported for Jordan (500 MT). Exports of 73,700 MT were up noticeably from the previous week and 25 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Mexico (29,900 MT), Nigeria (15,000 MT), New Guinea (6,600 MT), Honduras (6,400 MT), and Canada (4,300 MT).
Soybeans: Net sales of 381,500 MT for delivery in 2009/10--a marketing-year low--were down 43 percent from the previous week and 51 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases were primarily for China (262,500 MT, including 166,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 39,700 MT), Indonesia (89,400 MT, including 65,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 1,300 MT), Mexico (65,600 MT), Saudi Arabia (60,000 MT), Taiwan (48,700 MT), and Spain (41,000 MT, including 45,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 4,600 MT). Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (306,500 MT). Net sales of 3,100 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were reported for Japan. Exports of 1,275,000 MT were down 9 percent from the previous week and 11 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were China (865,500 MT), Indonesia (82,600 MT), Japan (63,700 MT), Spain (50,000 MT), Mexico (47,200 MT), and Egypt (36,100 MT).
Soybean Cake and Meal: Net sales of 134,900 MT for delivery in 2009/10 were down 47 percent from the previous week and 50 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases reported for Indonesia (64,600 MT, including 55,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), the Philippines (52,200 MT, including 40,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Canada (47,800 MT), New Zealand (29,700 MT, including 29,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), and Mexico (19,800 MT), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (65,700 MT), South Korea (55,000 MT), and France (20,500 MT). Net sales of 100 MT for delivery in 2010/11 were for Canada. Exports of 392,200 MT--a marketing-year high--were up 44 percent from the previous week and 38 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were Indonesia (75,800 MT), the Philippines (75,000 MT), New Zealand (29,700 MT), Mexico (29,100 MT), the United Kingdom (27,300 MT), and Canada (26,900 MT).
Soybean Oil: Net sales of 58,800 MT for delivery in 2009/10--a marketing-year high--were up 28 percent from the previous week and up noticeably from the prior 4-week average. Increases were reported for India (24,100 MT, switched from unknown destinations), the Dominican Republic (16,000 MT, including 8,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Morocco (8,300 MT, switched from unknown destinations), Angola (3,000 MT), Egypt (3,000 MT), and Jamaica (3,000 MT). Decreases were reported for unknown destinations (4,600 MT). There were no sales reported for delivery in 2010/11. Exports of 57,100 MT were up 9 percent from the previous week and 21 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were India (24,100 MT), Morocco (16,300 MT), the Dominican Republic (8,200 MT), and Algeria (4,500 MT).
Cotton: Net Upland sales of 519,500 running bales for delivery in 2009/10--a marketing-year high--were up 7 percent from the previous week and 44 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases were reported for China (201,200 RB), Mexico (95,900 RB), Turkey (39,200 RB), Vietnam (34,700 RB), and Taiwan (29,300 RB). Decreases were reported for El Salvador (1,100 RB) and unknown destinations (500 RB). Net sales of 143,500 RB for delivery in 2010/11 were primarily for Mexico (133,300 RB). Exports of 228,900 RB--a marketing-year high--were up 53 percent from the previous week and 46 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were China (58,000 RB), Mexico (40,700 RB), Turkey (40,500 RB), Thailand (22,300 RB), and Taiwan (15,000 RB). Net American Pima sales of 5,800 RB were down 44 percent from the previous week and 37 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases were primarily for China (2,500 RB), Thailand (1,000 RB), India (900 RB), and Japan (700 RB). There were no sales reported for delivery in 2010/11. Exports of 9,000 RB were down 66 percent from the previous week and 67 percent from the prior 4-week average. The primary destinations were China (3,900 RB), India (3,400 RB), Pakistan (1,000 RB), and Turkey (300 RB).
Hides and Skins: Net sales of 552,200 pieces were reported for delivery in 2010, up 31 percent from the previous week. Whole cattle hide sales of 545,800 pieces were primarily for China (302,900 pieces), South Korea (92,800 pieces), Taiwan (66,600 pieces), Thailand (24,200 pieces), and Mexico (13,400 pieces). Exports of 430,500 pieces were up 7 percent from the previous week. Whole cattle hide exports of 427,200 pieces were primarily to China (220,200 pieces), South Korea (116,700 pieces), Mexico (22,500 pieces), Taiwan (21,000 pieces), Italy (12,900 pieces), and Hong Kong (9,800 pieces).
Net sales of 186,900 wet blues for delivery in 2010 were up 72 percent from the previous week. The primary buyers were China (64,000 unsplit and 21,600 grain splits), South Korea (41,600 grain splits), Mexico (15,500 grain splits), and Vietnam (14,800 unsplit). Exports of 145,200 hides were primarily for China (50,500 unsplit and 3,200 grain splits), Mexico (22,100 grain splits and 6,800 unsplit), Italy (21,300 unsplit and 1,700 grain splits), Vietnam (20,000 unsplit), and Taiwan (8,100 unsplit). Net sales of splits totaling 626,800 pounds were for China (658,500 pounds) and Hong Kong (80,200 pounds). Decreases were reported for South Korea (105,500 pounds) and Indonesia (6,500 pounds). Exports of 661,900 pounds were primarily for China (375,200 pounds) and South Korea (201,900 pounds).
Beef: Net sales of 16,100 MT were up 17 percent from the previous week. Increases were reported for Mexico (4,800 MT), South Korea (2,900 MT), Japan (2,900 MT), Taiwan (1,600 MT), and Canada (1,500 MT). Exports of 9,700 MT were primarily for Mexico (3,200 MT), Canada (1,400 MT), Vietnam (1,300 MT), South Korea (1,200 MT), and Japan (1,000 MT).
