FMD Shatters Argentine and Uruguayan Hopes for Increased Beef Exports
Outbreaks of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Argentina and Uruguay are expected to radically alter their export prospects and their hopes of expanding world market share. With the United States and other major importing countries imposing strict import measures, beef export forecasts for Argentina and Uruguay have decreased 29 and 32 percent, respectively, from USDA's March 2001 forecast.
