Morocco

Morocco is a key U.S. ally in Africa and the Middle East. In January 2006, the U.S.-Morocco Free Trade Agreement (FTA) went into effect. The FTA represents an important step towards a vision of a Middle East Free Trade Area. The agreement eliminated tariffs on 95 percent of bilateral trade in consumer and industrial products. In FY 2008, agricultural exports (excluding forest and fishery products) to Morocco grew by 54 percent to $722 million.  The increase is spurred by the growth in sales of corn and soybeans.
