U.S. to Host International Cotton Meeting in 1999
The U.S. will host the 1999 Plenary meeting of the International Cotton Advisory Committee, a 42- member inter-governmental organization that works to promote a strong worldwide cotton economy. The U.S. helped to establish the organization in 1939. The one-week meeting is tentatively planned for early October in Charleston, SC, and will feature discussions on trade, synthetics, and outlook on prices. The U.S. cotton industry is a co-sponsor of the event, and will arrange tours of local production, ginning and textile industries, as well as participate directly in technical discussions during the meeting. The Plenary is expected to attract 500 international and domestic participants, and was last held in the United States10 years ago.
