Black Emphasis Program

Program Manager: Daniel Whitley

The objectives of the Black Emphasis Program are to address the underrepresentation of African Americans in the higher levels of the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) and to increase awareness of FAS opportunities, programs and activities. To achieve the objectives, we implement an aggressive recruitment and outreach strategy that services our target audience. We have developed relationships with African American serving organizations, including the NAACP, Minorities in Agriculture and Natural Resources Related Sciences (MANRRS), Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Black Chamber of Commerce, and Blacks in Government (BIG). We participate in their conferences and career fairs to reach out to their student members and promote FAS. In addition, we also work closely with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to promote career opportunities in FAS.
