Total oilseed production in the Europen Union (EU) for 1998/99 is projected to be 15.8 million tons, with rapeseed and sunflowerseed acccounting for 84 percent of the total output. France, the largest producer of oilseeds in the European Union, is the biggest producer of rapeseed and sunflowerseed, producing a third of the EU's total. The second largest oilseed producer, Germany, is a major producer of rapeseed. The third largest oilseed producer, Italy, is the largest producer of soybeans -- the third largest oilseed crop in the European Union.
